Start to post my very old poems

Before I knew how to type Chinese online, I wrote English poems. I wrote a poem on Protea flowers (see picture and description below).

Lure of Susannae and Pink Ice¹

Rosy glow and allied silky threads,

Proteas^1,2 hold aloft their stately heads –

Beautiful flowers to prompt the envy of us,

Only a few know much about.

To some it seems an artichoke,

While others link it to ancient God²

Or lovely Goddess.

So cool, like stone,

Like a monarch in the throne,

Buddha is untouched to the offers,

The beautiful Goddess flowers.

He was held arms about³

But irresponsive to prayers’ wishes.

Like holding the armless Venus⁴ -

Unable to give what you ask.

¹Susannae and Pink Ice are species of protea, a plant of many varieties with breathtaking diversity of shapes, sizes, hues and textures.

²Protea was named after the Greek God, Proteus, who was a minor sea God able to change shape at will.

³Friends came over to hold my Buddha for good fortune.

有一種叫Protea的花，用比較科學的方法來說，她是一種山龍眼科的喬木。據說，早在三億年前，她和她的家族就已經出現在地球上，可能是目前最古老的植物之一。光在南非，她就有近四百種不同的樣貌，她可以忍耐各種土壤、溫度，甚至可以同時在乾旱和雨林中，在高山和海岸邊生存。

The life story of Venus de Milo

After quitting her job as a model

she tried her hand as a waitress --

balancing trays of French toast
and spaghetti in tight clothes,

then spending her tips
on the engineering classes
that she took in night school.

She landed a work in SBIRS --
fingers typing technical memos
and filing classified folders,

making charts and photocopies,
then riding crowded bus and train
back to the East Bay flat
where she took off her shoes

and admired her beautiful feet

until she got her foot in the door

of the building that Juniper bought

re-established her Baseline

and settled in a cubicle in SEIT

fashioning a system-wide integrator
of Space and Ground sectors
and embracing Payload
so tight it snapped off her arms

and left her standing in line
at employment office in the Louvre,

landed a position admired by
the people all over the world.

This poem contains some specific terms used in my work.

2011 Poems

上次中秋節, 顧團團兄感觸良多, 那時我有小意外（請看下面的詩），沒辦法回應，現在寄出供大家分享。
現在醫生認為，如果是一個低風險的手術，他們建議早做，這樣一來, 一個人的生活品質得到提高。下一次與大家詳談。
[中秋節住院]
時逢佳節再開刀,
無奈住院過中秋,
不見明月天上掛,
嫦娥仙丹何處找。
醫院窗外長空夜,
床前不見明月光,
明朝到來人長久,
美好年華共嬋娟。

以前從來沒有胃痛過，今年發生了3次，頭2次吃點消化藥也就好了。 第3次醫生仔細地檢查，確定不是胃病，是膽囊感染。
所以朋友們，如果你有胃痛，必需找出真正原因。
醫院的意大利清潔老婦人，告訴我住院是一種blessing，之後的生活將有一個新的開始。是的，體重減了，油膩食物少了。
我上次2005年膝蓋手術，使我開始認真學寫中文, 直到現在我也寫了不少東西。
[去膽記]
夏日如春心裡疼，
決然開刀除驟痛。
兒女孫狗皆歸來，
青菜淡餚妻細煮，
供養脾胃再走動。
美麗湖邊風和暖，
海鷗候鳥草上雁，
潮起潮落潛鴨游，
從此無胆見老友。

*Note 今年我們這裡很冷，夏日如春天。
心裡疼=Heartburn. 我從來沒有經歷過。
無膽囊，只能吃不油膩的食物。
奧克蘭美麗湖(Lake Merritt)是鹹水湖, 連接到海灣，隨海水潮起潮落。

My after-thought poem for our 59-day trip to Asia in spring of 2011:
[寒風暴雨]
天冷地凍離家去,
海風椰影到南洋,
返回灣區心無奈,
寒風暴雨春遲來。
祈望今年雨水足,
尋求偏地野花開。
Fran suggested to go to Death Valley (偏地) to see 野花.

這次回台灣, 我們去了貓空杏花林。雖然過了全開花期，但春色仍滿園。

陡峭貓空杏花林,
微冷春遲仍顫抖,
某公臨老入花叢,
嬌妻拍照留倩影。

[風雨路]
不怕挑戰,
只是淚和汗,
雖然走得緩慢,
總有一天會走到,
下一個天晴的車站。
煩惱離得你遠遠的，
快樂纏得你死去活來,
風雨之後,
要幸福哟！

為妻種山藥記 2008 summer: Our 2-story high bamboo and banana trees are certain species that live in cold weather. After much work of our interior remodeling, we wanted to plant something in our backyard.
[種山藥記]
舊舍已經換新貌,
後院青竹芭蕉高,
不種蕃薯種山藥,
來日根莖燉佳餚。

窗外輕風竹影搖,
嫩藤爬竹來纏繞。
樓宇細雨芭蕉葉,
嬌妻陪伴不煩惱。
另有蜂鳥弄風騷。

Canadian Rockies in August of 2007: The very early morning view of Lake Louise is extremely beautiful. With that kind of money for a room in Lake Louise Hotel, I better got up very early to view the lake and write a poem.

白雪依山盡，
碧影水中留。
欲窮翠湖夙，
住上路易樓。

A Romantic Spanish Night in April of 2007: Many people were walking past the foothill of Alhambra castle at night, including a wedding dressed bride without a bridegroom. It’s a romantic sight.

古堡明月中,
暗燈照紅牆。
人約黃昏後,
異國多風流。
新娘夜里走,
今宵陪何郎。

天涯雖遙一瞬間,
猶憶故鄉到此鄉,
即將新年換舊年,
歡樂今宵此刻中,

2005 Poems

Below poem was written when I injured my knee in spring of 2005. There were much rain and water in front of my house.
First poem:
[有長今]
舍前皆春水, 失足何茫然,
家有大長今, 悉心盡照料。
救車急相送, 世子亦歸來,
膝下安兩釘, 留我獨失落。

星月沉山澗, 伊人朝夕對,
廚灶備膳餐, 餚盤盛菜肉。
飄搖步履艱, 補參枸杞茶,
室內鬱金香, 窗外紫藤垂,
傷痕隨風逝, 雋刻晨霜中。

Second poem was wrtten 2 months later, while fixing front yard was ongoing project.
[長今苦]
足傷何無奈, 舍前修花圃,
春雨下不停, 長今也呧咕。
腳痛未出外, 唯有看韓劇,
施工多奔忙, 只是佳人苦。

青竹迎風種, 紋石門徑鋪,
綠草楓樹栽, 白蘭庭中植,
拾級台階歇, 赤足吐清哺。
朝鮮醫女遠, 思慕遙莫及,
旦夕伊人對, 默記於心腑。

Below poem was written in June 2005 in Norway, an East European trip booked before my injury.
[挪威行]
群山瀑布河水清,
峽灣緩緩總有情,
蒼綠倒映湖若鏡,
紅顏相伴美如景。

足傷履艱北極邊,
冰河高上白雲間,
為了佳人也勇前,
隧道雖長仍行盡,
此情綿綿無絕期。
